After pressure washing, we apply a specialist biocide treatment to the entire surface. This kills any remaining algae, moss, lichen or fungal spores that have penetrated below the surface and may not have been fully removed by the pressure wash alone. This step is critical because even microscopic traces of organic growth left on the surface can regrow quickly beneath the new sealer, causing discolouration and premature sealer failure. The biocide treatment ensures a completely clean, sterile surface before sealing.
The concrete must be thoroughly dry before any sealer is applied. Applying sealer to a damp surface is one of the most common mistakes made by inexperienced contractors, and it leads to a cloudy, white appearance known as blushing, as well as poor adhesion and premature peeling. We allow adequate drying time, which is typically overnight but may be longer in cooler or more humid conditions. We check the moisture content of the concrete before proceeding to ensure optimal conditions for sealer application.
Once the surface is confirmed dry, we apply a premium-quality acrylic sealer using professional spray equipment for an even, consistent finish. We use high-solids acrylic sealers that provide superior UV protection, excellent colour enhancement and outstanding resistance to oil, fuel, tyre marks and general weathering. The sealer is available in matt, satin or gloss finishes depending on your preference. We apply the sealer in thin, even coats, building up to the optimal film thickness. We recommend resealing your imprinted concrete driveway every two to three years as a general guideline. However, the exact frequency depends on several factors specific to your property and usage. Driveways that face south or receive prolonged direct sunlight will experience faster UV degradation of the sealer and may benefit from resealing every 18 months to 2 years. Driveways under or near trees may need more frequent attention due to sap, leaf staining and increased moisture retention creating favourable conditions for algae growth.
Heavy traffic driveways that see multiple vehicles every day will wear through the sealer more quickly than a lightly used surface. Properties in coastal areas where salt spray is a factor may also need more regular maintenance. The key is to reseal before the protective barrier has completely worn away, as this prevents moisture and contaminants from reaching the concrete itself and makes each subsequent reseal more effective and longer-lasting.
